Membership Categories

Professional: Individuals who hold a master's degree or higher in counseling or a closely related field from a college or university that was accredited when the degree was awarded by one of the regional accrediting bodies recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.  Professional members must present proof of academic credentials upon request.

Regular: Individuals whose interests and activities are consistent with those of the Association, but who are not qualified for Professional membership.

New Professional: A current Student member who has graduated within the last 12 months.  Status is good for one year.

Student:Individuals who are enrolled at least half-time in a college or university program.

Retired:Status is applicable only to current members who are retired from the counseling profession and have been active ACA members for the past 5 consecutive years.

Associate: Membership is not contingent upon membership in ACA. Persons whose interests and activities are consistent with those of AADA, but who are not qualified for professional membership, may be addmitted as Regular members of the association.

Who Joins AADA?


Counselors, service providers in the helping professions, family members, legislators, and other community service agencies and persons interested in matters related to the development and needs of adults across the lifespan are all encouraged to join AADA.
